Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V.
The Laser Zentrum Hannover e.V. (LZH) is an independent non-profit, association in the area of laser technology (about 250 employees). It is divided in 6 departments covering the areas of laser development, thin film optics, material processing, production technologies, nanotechnology and laser medicine. Besides its involvement in many public and non-public R&D projects, LZH performs consulting and training of experts for the industrial application of laser technology in co-operation with LZH Laserakademie GmbH.
LZH was already a partner in Identitex. In this project the basis for the NIR-detection and sorting of textiles was developed. Since then, the NIR-technology and the data-processing have been improved. This makes NIR even more suited as the sorting technology.
In the project LZH will improve the Identitex technology to a further extend in order to make the system more robust. As the NIR-libraries will be the heart of the sorting algorithms, special attention will be paid at the sample collection.
LZH believes that NIR-sorting of post consumer waste is a viable technology. LZH will be the provider of the NIR-hardware and will become responsible for the updates of the library, so every licensee will use the same sorting algorithm, resulting in a Europe wide standardized sorting result.
As the number of sorting lines needed in Europe (and the rest of the world) is many hundreds, this offers a unique business opportunity for LZH.
